Abdominoplasty
General Information: The abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a procedure
to remove excess skin and fat, tighten the muscles and in some cases remove
scars or stretch marks from the abdomen. It is frequently combined with liposuction
to improve the overall sculptured appearance of the abdomen. Women who have had
multiple pregnancies and men who have had significant weight gain and loss are
frequently good candidates for this operation. The operation can be performed
by a variety of incisions and techniques. At your consultation, your doctor will
determine what procedure will give you the best overall result. Like all operations
there are surgical risks associated with the abdominoplasty and these will be thoroughly discussed.
Length of Surgery: 2 to 5 Hours
Location: Accredited Surgery Center or Hospital
Anesthesia: General or local with sedation
Recovery Time: The patient can usually return to work in 2 to 3 weeks depending
on the individual. Exercise and strenuous activity may be done at 4 to 6 weeks following surgery.
Post Operative Results: Each patient heals differently; however following the surgery patients
may experience temporary pain, swelling, possible bruising, soreness and fatigue. The incisions will
fade and flatten with time. It has been our experience that patients are very happy with their post
op results and their new look.
Helpful Hints: Be in good mental and physical health. Help improve healing by taking pre
and postoperative vitamins. Improve the appearance of small scars with topical gel.
